Writing the Tree, or How I learned to write in 1993

A look at how I learned to write in 1993.

In college, I took a May-mester novel/creative writing class. An eighteen day short, super intense semester - 4 hours of class and 4-10 hours of homework five days a week. Only supplies were 3 inch 3-ring binder and lots of notebook paper. Day 1 Meet your Characters, Find your world (build) Day 2-10 Write interaction scenes, action scenes, fight scenes, romance scenes, etc. EVERYTHING you can think of that they might do together. Day 11-14 Put the scenes into a story order by laying out pages on floor and create a plot. Write the fill in scenes needed on blank sheets Day 15-16 Hunt down and fix continuity errors, fill in plot holes, write the merges between scenes. Day 17 type it all up make someone else beta read part. 15K (I got 30K) Day 18 hand it in and take 5 other stories home to read and write critiques on to be turned in 5 days after semester ended. I got a B+ and was quite happy with my reviews. M.M. Ward's Amazon page
